What’s the deal with the second-largest river systems? My girlfriend is studying for the test. The manual says:

New Brunswick has the second largest river system on North America’s Atlantic coastline. [Doesn’t sound like much, frankly: just on the coastline, and second...] The MacKenzie River is the second-longest river system in North America. [that’s slightly better, but still...]. [http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/discover/section-13.asp]

(Second largest without a hyphen, but second-longest with. Weird eh?)

Of course, knowing who the first woman publisher is is waaaay more important, but I thought some questions might be about what is the pride of Canada now. And why are sports, or inventions, more important than movies or pop music? I bet many more people listen to Celine Dion than use BlackBerry. In fact, their best bet is to listen to Celine Dion ON their BlackBerry. (While sitting on a Bombardier jet and drinking Labatt Ice).

My question was inspired by a website that I found recently: the Consulate of India in Jedda, Saudi Arabia. Here’s what it says:

The maximum amount of Death Compensation (Diyya) generally admissible in Saudi Arabia, in respect of road/traffic/fire accident, murder, etc. is as under:

Death Compensation in respect of a male person:

  1. Muslim - SR. 100,000/-
  2. Christian/Jew - SR.50,000/- (in case you’re wondering, it's C$ 14.000)
  3. Other religions : such as Hindu, Buddhist, Jain, etc. - SR 6666.66

In the case of death of a female, death compensation allowed is equal to half the amount as admissible to males professing the same religion. (thus, the family of a Christian woman killed in Saudi Arabia can ask for 7 thousand Canadian dollars).

How much blood money can you ask if your relative is killed in Canada?
(a) This concept does not, and should not, exist in Canada (right answer)
(b) If the victim is a christian man, C$ 100,000
(c) If the victim is a hindu woman, C$ 15,000
